Material
AISI 316 Stainless Steel Wire
AISI 316 Stainless Steel Wire is selected from its stiffness, recovery, wear, wet-service, chemical, and temperature behavior. For brush stiffness, do not give only the material name. Filament diameter, free trim, density, grade, and service conditions must be specified together.

Material Overview
AISI 316 is a molybdenum-alloyed austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel. The molybdenum addition improves pitting and crevice-corrosion resistance compared with AISI 304.
In a finished brush, AISI 316 Stainless Steel Wire does not create a fixed stiffness by itself. Contact performance comes from the filament geometry and installed setting; grade, moisture, heat, and chemistry determine how it performs over time.
Material Properties
| Density | 7.9–8.0 g/cm³ |
|---|---|
| Wire diameter | 0.03–1.00 mm |
| Hardness | Rockwell B 70–95 depending on temper |
| Continuous brush service | 400°C [Industry Reference Range] |
| Short-term peak | 500°C [Industry Reference Range] |
| Corrosion behavior | Higher chloride pitting and crevice-corrosion resistance than AISI 304 due to molybdenum |
| Standards | ASTM 316 / UNS S31600 / EN 1.4401; ASTM 316L / UNS S31603 / EN 1.4404 |
