Material

Boar Bristle

Boar Bristle is selected from its stiffness, recovery, wear, wet-service, chemical, and temperature behavior. The same material can produce different stiffness, so filament diameter, trim length, density, grade, and service conditions must also be defined.

Boar Bristle

Material Overview

Boar or hog bristle is a tapered natural filament with split tips that can carry and spread liquids while providing moderate scrubbing action.

In a finished brush, Boar Bristle does not create a fixed stiffness by itself. Contact performance comes from the filament geometry and installed setting; grade, moisture, heat, and chemistry determine how it performs over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the key properties of Boar Bristle brush material?

Boar or hog bristle is a tapered natural filament with split tips that can carry and spread liquids while providing moderate scrubbing action. Direct data: Fiber diameter: 100–250 µm; Natural flagging: split tips improve liquid carrying; Use temperature: up to 90°C; Brush stiffness: medium to firm; Water absorption: moderate.

Where is Boar Bristle used in cleaning brushes?

Vehicle detailing, polishing and controlled hand cleaning where natural split tips provide useful agitation.

How does filament geometry change Boar Bristle brush stiffness?

Boar Bristle changes brush stiffness through filament diameter, free trim, density, crimp, and contact. Use finer filament and longer trim for conformable contact; use coarser filament, shorter trim, or higher density for stronger displacement or cutting.

When should Boar Bristle be replaced by another material?

Compare Boar Bristle with Horsehair, nylon, PBT. Change material when wet stiffness, temperature, chemical resistance, conductivity, particle shedding, or surface marking becomes the limiting factor.
