PA11 Nylon

Bio-based polyamide filament

Choose PA11 Nylon based on its stiffness, recovery, wear, wet-service, chemical, and temperature behavior. To define stiffness, confirm the material together with filament diameter, free trim length, density, grade, and service conditions.

PA11 Nylon is used as brush fill or contact media where its property profile fits the cleaning duty.

What is PA11 Nylon, and what makes it different from other brush filaments?

PA11 Nylon sits in the bio-based nylon family, supplied as filament, strip fill, roller fill and molded blade or foam pad as applicable, drawn in round, triangular, cross-shaped and hollow sections and set in straight rows, helical, staggered, zoned and wavy fill patterns.

PA11 Nylon is a custom brush contact material selected by filament or blade geometry, temperature, moisture, chemicals and surface risk.

Change material when temperature, chemicals, static, shedding or surface marking becomes limiting.

What stiffness and contact pressure can I expect from PA11 Nylon?

PA11 Nylon is shore D 65–75, and brush behavior follows High Flexibility flexibility and Shore D 65–75 hardness.

The part people get wrong: the number that decides scrubbing pressure is diameter over trim length, not the grade name. Two brushes in this material can behave nothing alike.

How does water affect PA11 Nylon performance?

PA11 Nylon takes up 0.3–0.6% (24h, ISO 62/ASTM D570).

PA11 absorbs less moisture than many conventional nylon grades, but the exact value depends on grade, conditioning and test method; confirm the selected filament TDS.

What this means for your application: water changes the working diameter and the spring rate together, so wet performance has to be checked rather than assumed from a dry trial.

A practical check: soak a sample for an hour and re-measure the trim. If it has moved enough to change the contact band, the grade is wrong for the duty.

What temperature limits apply to PA11 Nylon?

Grade dependent. Use the filament manufacturer TDS; do not infer a brush working limit from PA11 melting or processing temperature.

Design to that answer rather than to a raw-material datasheet figure: a brush rating already accounts for filament working under load rather than raw polymer sitting in an oven.

Where it stops working: validate with a sample if the process sits near the top of that band. A permanent bend under load means the answer is a higher-temperature filament family, not a heavier trim.

The usable limit also moves with diameter, trim and contact pressure. A fine filament under light load tolerates more than a thick one under heavy scrubbing.

What chemicals attack PA11 Nylon?

Grade dependent; check the exact chemical, concentration, temperature, exposure time and mechanical load against the selected PA11 grade.

The same cleaner can be harmless or destructive depending on how strong it is, how hot it runs and how long it sits. Quote the concentration and the dwell time, not just the product name.

Before you commit to a quantity: Use resin or alloy grade TDS, ISO/ASTM property method and lot traceability when specified.

What is the practical lower limit for filament diameter?

About 0.05 mm. Below that the filament turns fragile and breaks under ordinary contact pressure, so 0.05–2.00 mm is the working range.

Free trim runs 5–250 mm, and the two interact: a finer filament needs a shorter trim to keep useful stiffness, while a thicker one carries a longer trim and still lands pressure on the tip.

Split the range by duty: roughly 0.05–0.54 mm for light wiping, dusting and surfaces that mark easily, and 0.54–2.00 mm where residue is packed on and point pressure matters more than surface risk.

Tip treatments available on this filament: end rounding, tapered-tip grinding, silicone-oil coating, anti-static coating and antibacterial coating.

In practical brush terms: reaching deep into a bore or crevice is a diameter problem before it is a length problem. A thicker filament on a moderate trim pushes further in before the tips fold over.

What applications typically use PA11 Nylon?

Custom cleaning brushes requiring PA11 Nylon Filament for its mechanical, temperature, moisture or chemical behavior.

The cleaning work it is specified for most often:

  • Industrial Machine Cleaning
  • Dust Removal
  • Brick, Tile & Building Material Machine Brush Use
  • Laboratory Tube Cleaning
  • Household Dish, Teapot & Kitchen Detail Cleaning
  • Carpet Machine Cleaning

Brush types built with this fill:

  • Custom Handheld Detail Brushes
  • Custom Tube & Pipe Bore Brushes
  • Custom Roller and Conveyor Brushes
  • Custom Polishing Buffing Wheels

The trade-off: Final performance depends on PA11 grade, filament diameter, trim, density, moisture conditioning, chemical exposure and operating temperature.

How do I specify PA11 Nylon for a custom brush?

A usable specification carries the construction, the filament diameter and free trim, the density and contact setting, and the service conditions: wet or dry, temperature, and what the cleaner actually is.

The mistakes that most often send a sample back:

  • Selecting only by material name without defining diameter, trim, density, engagement and operating conditions

Questions this page is asked

How should PA11 moisture behavior be compared with another nylon?

Use the same filament diameter, trim, tuft density and engagement and report mass and dimensions in the dry, defined equilibrium and representative immersed states. Measure contact force, recovery, dimensional change and post-dry return at each state, because a lower published uptake does not by itself quantify the finished brush's wet stiffness.

What should a PA11 chemical-service trial measure?

Expose the identified filament and retention system to the exact chemical, impurities, concentration, temperature, time and repeated rinse or dry cycle while maintaining representative bend or contact stress. Compare mass, dimensions, appearance, surface condition, tensile or bend retention and brush force with unexposed controls, using the producer chart only to choose the trial conditions.
