Custom Spring Brushes

Choose a spring brush when the brush body must flex, compress, follow a curved path, or maintain radial contact through a long or irregular passage.

Type Overview

Spring brushes use a helical or spring-supported core to carry filament while allowing the assembly to bend, compress, or recover. They are useful in pipes, heat-exchanger tubes, flexible ducts, and equipment paths where a rigid stem cannot follow the geometry.

Spring diameter, free length, wire section, brush outside diameter, trim, end connection, and minimum bend radius determine reach and contact. The spring must be flexible enough to follow the path but stiff enough to transmit the push, pull, or reciprocating motion without buckling.

Common Configurations

Helical spring-core brush

Filament is carried on or around a coil that follows curved passages.

Flexible extension assembly

A spring section connects the brush head to a handle, rod, or powered holder.

Compressible radial brush

The working diameter can contract through an opening and recover inside the passage.

Threaded spring brush

Replaceable ends connect to rods, cables, or reciprocating cleaning equipment.

Stepped or sectional spring brush

Different spring or brush sections address changes in bore size and access.

Material Selection Guidelines

Stainless steel wire

Corrosion-resistant spring support and aggressive contact where metallic cleaning is required.

Nylon PA or PBT

Flexible wet or dry cleaning where polymer filament is suitable.

Abrasive nylon

Internal conditioning and deburring with controlled grit action.

Brass wire

Softer metallic contact for compatible tubes and components.

Technical Considerations

Provide the complete path, bore diameter, length, bends and minimum radius, access opening, residue, workpiece material, required brush diameter and spring length, push-pull or reciprocating motion, end connection, chemistry, and quantity.
