Titanium Wire is a specialty metal wire used as brush fill or a cleaning-contact element.

What is Titanium Wire, and what makes it different from other brush filaments?

Titanium Wire belongs to the specialty metal wire group, supplied as wire diameter 0.08–0.50 mm and straight or crimped, drawn in round, flat and crimped sections and set in straight rows, helical, staggered, zoned, wavy and random fill patterns.

Titanium Wire is used in custom cleaning brushes for corrosion-resistant precision cleaning, aerospace and chemical-process components.

The realistic alternatives are other corrosion-resistant wires — AISI 316 stainless, Monel and Inconel. The polymer columns below are there to show how far a metal wire sits from any filament, not because a nylon would do this job.

Step down to a stainless wire where the chemistry allows it; step up to a hard steel wire only where marking and carbon pickup do not matter.

What stiffness and contact pressure can I expect from Titanium Wire?

Titanium Wire is firm with lower density than steel, and Titanium Wire changes contact through its filament or media size, free trim, density, profile, and engagement.

Published ranges for the filament itself. Read them as a shortlist tool, not as brush performance.

The part people get wrong: stiffness is not a property of the material on its own. A 0.50 mm filament on a 15 mm trim is stiffer than a 0.30 mm filament on a 25 mm trim in the same grade. Fix diameter and trim first, then confirm the material.

How does water affect Titanium Wire performance?

Titanium wire takes up no water at all, so nothing about the trim changes between the dry bench and the wet job.

Titanium does not absorb water and commercially pure grades offer strong corrosion resistance in many wet and chloride-containing environments; the exact alloy and chemistry still matter.

What this means for your application: the trim you set dry is the trim you keep wet. Titanium does not swell, so contact pressure is unchanged by the fluid and the reach you measured is the reach you get.

A practical check: inspect for pitting, not for movement. Confirm the grade against the actual chloride concentration and temperature rather than against “seawater” as a category.

What temperature limits apply to Titanium Wire?

Commercially pure titanium has published mechanical and thermal data over a broad temperature range, but that is not a finished-brush rating. Wire grade, temper, anchoring, hub, atmosphere, speed and contact load set the usable brush temperature.

Design to that answer rather than to a raw-material datasheet figure: a brush rating already accounts for wire working under load rather than bare wire held at temperature with nothing pushing on it.

Where it stops working: validate with a sample if the process sits near the top of that band. A permanent bend under load means the answer is a higher-temperature filament family, not a heavier trim.

The usable limit also moves with diameter, trim and contact pressure. A fine filament under light load tolerates more than a thick one under heavy scrubbing.

What chemicals attack Titanium Wire?

Use the grade-specific chemical profile and confirm it against the actual chemical, temperature, exposure-time, and load conditions of your application.

The same cleaner can be harmless or destructive depending on how strong it is, how hot it runs and how long it sits. Quote the concentration and the dwell time, not just the product name.

Before you commit to a quantity: Specify Titanium Wire form, diameter or grade, trim, density, working temperature, cleaning fluid, and surface finish.

What is the practical lower limit for filament diameter?

About 0.05 mm. Below that the filament turns fragile and breaks under ordinary contact pressure, so 0.05–0.80 mm is the working range.

Free trim runs 3–300 mm, and the two interact: a finer filament needs a shorter trim to keep useful stiffness, while a thicker one carries a longer trim and still lands pressure on the tip.

Split the range by duty: roughly 0.05–0.24 mm for light wiping, dusting and surfaces that mark easily, and 0.24–0.80 mm where residue is packed on and point pressure matters more than surface risk.

Tip treatments available on this filament: degreasing, plating, passivation and crimping.

In practical brush terms: reaching deep into a bore or crevice is a diameter problem before it is a length problem. A thicker filament on a moderate trim pushes further in before the tips fold over.

What applications typically use Titanium Wire?

Corrosion-resistant precision cleaning, aerospace and chemical-process components.

The applications that keep coming back to this grade:

  • Heat Exchanger Tube Cleaning
  • Pipe Robot Brush Attachment Use
  • Hose Cleaning
  • Tube & Pipe Cleaning
  • Surface Finishing
  • Deburring & Edge Breaking

The constructions that usually carry it:

  • Custom Tube & Pipe Bore Brushes
  • Custom Handheld Detail Brushes
  • Custom Cup Brushes
  • Custom Spring Brushes

The trade-off: High cost and lower cutting aggression than carbon steel at equal diameter.

How do I specify Titanium Wire for a custom brush?

A usable specification carries the construction, the filament diameter and free trim, the density and contact setting, and the service conditions: wet or dry, temperature, and what the cleaner actually is.

The mistakes that most often send a sample back:

  • Selecting Titanium Wire without setting diameter, trim and density
  • Using the material on a surface that cannot accept its contact level
  • Ignoring temperature, liquid, motion or residue retention

Questions this page is asked

What must be reviewed before titanium wire enters chloride or chemical cleaning service?

Document the exact titanium grade, chemical species and impurities, concentration, pH, temperature, aeration, moisture, flow, dwell time, crevices, and contact stress. Use grade-specific corrosion evidence or a representative exposure test, paying special attention to fluoride, strongly reducing or complexing media and oxygen-starved conditions where passive-film recovery may differ.

How should titanium-wire contact be released on the workpiece and holder system?

Run the actual wire diameter, trim, speed or stroke, engagement and lubricant against representative parts, then inspect for galling, transferred metal, scratches, discoloration and dimensional change. Include the hub, anchors and adjacent metals in wet exposure and electrical-isolation review so a corrosion-resistant wire does not create an untested galvanic or mechanical interface.
